We collaborated with the City of Saint Paul, Saint Paul Saints Baseball, Metropolitan Council, Capitol Region Watershed District, multiple architects, engineers and contractors, and various other stakeholders to successfully create this new 7,000-seat ballpark located in Downtown Saint Paul. Our team provided the stormwater analysis, modeling, design/engineering, regulatory assistance and construction administration for a large system of innovative stormwater features including tree trenches, underground storage/filtration systems, a bio-retention basin and a rainwater harvesting and re-use system. The most noteworthy stormwater management feature is the first ever commercial rainwater harvesting and re-use system used for flushing toilets ever in Saint Paul! Construction was completed in May of 2015.

Challenges

Existing site contained extensive soil contamination and a thick building foundation, which limited the space available for stormwater features.
Project included a very large group of public and private stakeholders (over 60 different organizations) so the design, funding and approvals processes were quite challenging and time consuming.
Site contained several utilities over 70 years old so the site design was difficult because some utilities were to remain while others were being replaced.

Solution and Results

Our team provided the stormwater analysis, modeling, design/engineering, regulatory assistance and construction administration services to create a network of sustainable stormwater features throughout this 7,000-seat ballpark. We designed an innovative system of stormwater features including tree trenches, underground storage/filtration systems, a bio-retention basin and a rainwater harvesting and re-use system.

Created a multi-functional system of stormwater features for greatly improved water quality and increased storage.
Collaborated with the Metropolitan Council and Capitol Region Watershed District to help this project obtain over $400,000 of grant funding for stormwater features that exceeded the regulatory requirements.
Led the analysis, design, approvals and construction administration of the first ever commercial rainwater harvesting and re-use system used for flushing toilets in Saint Paul.
